Titanium is a chemical element, with symbol Ti and atomic number 22. It is a silver gray transition metal. Compared with steel, the metal with which it competes in technical applications, it is much lighter (4.5 / 7.8).
Titanium was discovered in the eighteenth century, a time when it was not known to give proper use and for many years could not be used in the commercial area. In fact, to this day, it is an extremely expensive metal. The physical properties of titanium are very similar to those of steel. It has a great firmness and hardness, as well as a very low corrosion against chemicals and the environment. Its main use occurs in aerospace expeditions, since this industry is capable of solving the cost of titanium due to the high budgets allocated by governments that have the necessary technology to place a body in space.
Its use has been generalized with the development of aerospace technology, where it is able to withstand the extreme conditions of cold and heat that occur in space, and in the chemical industry, for being resistant to the attack of many acids; likewise, this metal has biocompatible properties, given that the tissues of the organism tolerate its presence, which is why it is feasible to manufacture many prostheses and implants of this metal. It has mechanical properties similar to those of steel, both pure and in the alloys it forms, therefore it competes with steel in many technical applications, especially with stainless steel.
TITANIUM 3AL-2.5V IN PIPES
JERÓNIMO Cycles uses a titanium alloy with 3% aluminum and 2.5% vanadium, known as Ti3Al2.5V (Grade 9 CWSR / ASTM B338), in all tubes in the frame.
TITANIUM CP (TITANIUM PURE) IN THE WELDING
The JERÓNIMO Cycles frames are manufactured using the most advanced TIG (Tungsten Inert Gas) welding processes for tubes, using titanium type CP (pure titanium) as a filler material. This is an advantage compared to other manufacturers who usually use titanium type 6Al-4V as a filler material and that weakens the area due to an increase in hardness of the welded zone.
TITANIUM 6AL-4V IN CNC PARTS
JERÓNIMO Cycles uses a titanium alloy with 6% aluminum and 4% vanadium, known as Ti6Al4V (Grade 5 CWSR / ASTM B338), in all CNC parts of the frame. This alloy withstands higher stresses and stresses, being ideal for the manufacture of compromised areas such as the dropouts of the frame or the support of the disc brake caliper.
